Introducing Benvolio

Waking up in a strange bedroom, in a strange house, was bad enough, but then when Benvolio finally made his way to the front door he was greeted by snow outside. Summer might be coming to an end, but it definitely is not snow weather yet, nor is Benvolio dressed for such, in his black silk doublet, black and blue trimmed trunk hose, and black stockings. He does have shoes on, thankfully, though he can't imagine how he would have fallen asleep wearing shoes. It's not like he's had much opportunity to celebrate to the point of blacking out lately, after all.

Regardless, he takes one look at the snow outside and decides to shut the door and instead turn his attention to the table covered in different pamphlets and papers. He has many questions.

"Strangely comforting, to know at least I am not the only one confused."

"Oh, not even close. Everyone's confused."

[keep_the_peace]

“I shall fit in well then,” he says with a laugh.

[sporesprouter]

"There you go. It's easy!"

[keep_the_peace]

"Indeed! What else ought I to know about this place, my lady?"

[sporesprouter]

She nods to the welcome table. "How much of that have you read so far?"

[keep_the_peace]

"How much I have read and how much I have understood are two entirely different answers, but I will say 'most' and 'hardly any'."

Tress laughs. "That makes sense. How about this. Do you have any specific questions about any of it?"

[keep_the_peace]

"So many I know not where to begin," he says, looking back at the table a little helplessly, trying to make up his mind. "Firstly, I suppose, how does a room or hallway suddenly appear somewhere?"

"I wish I knew! Mostly where you're going is going to be where it's supposed to be. But sometimes you'll find new places."

[keep_the_peace]

"I see." He doesn't. "For my next question - what is 'pinball'?"

[sporesprouter]

She blinks. "... You know, I don't really go to the game room. If you want, we can go there and find out together what it is."

[keep_the_peace]

"Aye, that would be nice, Lady Tress."

[sporesprouter]

"All right. We'll do that. Do you have any other questions first, though?"

[keep_the_peace]

"None so important they cannot wait," he says. He really has more questions than he can even start to ask, but he figures some time for things to sink in while he focuses on something else entirely will probably do him some good.

"All right. This way, then." She starts in the direction of the game room.

[keep_the_peace]

He follows behind, silently ogling at the weirdness around (lightbulbs mostly) as they walk.

"It's a lot to take in at once, I know."

[keep_the_peace]

"Aye, it is. ...How does that work?" he asks, pointing at a lamp. He can tell that's not a flame but has no clue what else could be happening.

[sporesprouter]

"It's electricity. It's like... harnessed lightning traveling along metal wires."

[keep_the_peace]

"Ah." He will not touch it then!

[sporesprouter]

"It's very useful."

[keep_the_peace]

“How does one… get the lightning in or out?” Since it’s obviously more difficult than lighting a match for a candle.

[sporesprouter]

"I'm a bit less sure about where it comes from because I haven't actually found a source, but it travels through wires in the walls, and if it needs to come out, there are plugs that the machines that use it can attach to to draw from it."

[keep_the_peace]

He takes a closer look at the lamp, spots the cord, then follows that down to the plug in the wall. Very tentatively, he touches the wall next to the plug. It just feels like a normal wall. It's not even hot or anything. Next he reaches toward the cord, then stops and looks back at Tress. "'Tis safe?" She did say it was lightning, but then again, the house isn't burned down or anything like that, so who knows.
