Introducing Benvolio

Waking up in a strange bedroom, in a strange house, was bad enough, but then when Benvolio finally made his way to the front door he was greeted by snow outside. Summer might be coming to an end, but it definitely is not snow weather yet, nor is Benvolio dressed for such, in his black silk doublet, black and blue trimmed trunk hose, and black stockings. He does have shoes on, thankfully, though he can't imagine how he would have fallen asleep wearing shoes. It's not like he's had much opportunity to celebrate to the point of blacking out lately, after all.

Regardless, he takes one look at the snow outside and decides to shut the door and instead turn his attention to the table covered in different pamphlets and papers. He has many questions.

"I am learning much today!"

Kade laughs, charmed in the way a teacher often is by an enthusiastic student. "Welcome to this World."

[keep_the_peace]

"How doth this one look?" Benvolio asks about the jacket, because he doesn't know how it's supposed to fit or anything like that. He's never seen one.

[kadewest]

"A little big. They're supposed to run larger so you can wear 'em over sweaters, but it would create too much of an air layer in this cold." Kade tilts his head. "I could take it in if you like it, though. It would be an easy adjustment."

[keep_the_peace]

"'Tis definitely my favorite of the three," he says. "I would be thankful for the alterations, an it pleases thee."

[kadewest]

"Oh, it pleases me." Kade goes to get his tape measure and notebook. "I do have a few more options, if you'd like to see them. I also make coats. My fees are very reasonable."

[keep_the_peace]

"Oh, what are thine fees?" Should he have probably asked this sooner? Maybe. Has he literally ever had to worry about how much something costs before in his life? Nope.

"A story. About you and where you came from."

[keep_the_peace]

"A story?"

[kadewest]

"Yes. Something true."

[keep_the_peace]

"Now, or some time later?"

[kadewest]

"Your choice," Kade tells him, gesturing for Benvolio to follow as he heads back into the racks of clothes. "First, though, take a look at these other coats, see if anything else catches your eye like the windbreaker does."

He nods and begins digging through the other coats. There are several he thinks are nice (including a longer, dark purple coat), and many more he outright dislikes (a denim jacket with some sort of really terrible painting on the back, for starters, but to be fair that's more the painting itself he dislikes than the jacket itself), but overall he finds he likes the bright colors and unusual fabric of the windbreaker best. "I think this is still my favorite," he says at long last.

"What do you like about it?"

"'Tis... very comfortable, and gives a good range of motion," he rolls his shoulders as if demonstrating, "And the colors please me." Though... he's not entirely sure if he's ready to actually wear colors again just yet. He did have quite a number of loved ones pass away relatively recently. Maybe he's being excessive though. Maybe not. Maybe?

Kade watches him quietly, smile still on his lips. "If you don't mind me asking," he says, "your expression just changed. What's on your mind?"

[keep_the_peace]

"Oh, 'tis just -- there recently were a number of deaths in my family, I have been in mourning since. I do not know if I ought to wear such colors yet." He pauses, then adds, "I apologize for bringing such a topic up."

[kadewest]

Kade bets he has. He rests a hand on Benvolio's shoulder and squeezes. "The way I see it, we have a couple of options here."

[keep_the_peace]

"Ay?" he says, listening.

[kadewest]

"If you're not completely ready, I think our best choices are as follows. One: We could find you a warm black coat to wear while I take this one in, and you can keep both to wear as you see fit. Two: I could make you a black armband to wear over the sleeve, so that you can get the colors while still paying your respects. Three: we find you a black sweatshirt or something to wear underneath the coat, so the colors are showing but--again, there's still a nod to mourning."

Benvolio thinks this over. Each option seems to have positives and negatives, and he's honestly not really sure which is the best, but he figures he should probably pick at least one option, and not stand here thinking silently any longer, so he says, "The last seems a good choice."

"Yeah?" Kade gives him an encouraging grin. "All right, let's find you a sweatshirt."

[keep_the_peace]

He smiles a little. "Thou'rt very kind."

[kadewest]

"This?" Kade winks at him. "No, no, you're the one doing me a favor."

[keep_the_peace]

"By giving thee something to work on?"
