Introducing: Mercutio

Mercutio is lying on a very plush couch. It is not where he was, that is clear enough. This is nothing like a tavern, certainly nothing at all like Verona. Even the lights are strange-looking, not flickering or dancing like flame. Is it some kind of faerie-land? Without doubt, it is not any sort of heaven or hell he has read of, though he knows well he should be dead. The lingering blood on his extremely thin, gauzy shirt is proof enough of that. Strangely, he is no longer bleeding, but that only makes it easier to rise from his bed and proceed to look about the room.

Eventually, he makes his way through the house, poking in various rooms until he finds his way to the main foyer. He opens the door and stands in the entrance, examining the gardens and forest beyond; before deciding that it is unreasonably cold outside. There's more proof, then, that this is not Verona, it had been the middle of summer when he had been fighting Tybalt. He shrugs, and proceeds to rifle through the papers at the table, not exactly reading or retaining anything on them. Clearly there are inhabitants, but he hasn't seen any of them yet. A queer faerie-land, indeed.

Magnus has been distracted by the other new arrival for a few days -- between Alex and Galahad, his schedule is quite full -- so he doesn't come across this newcomer until he's had a few days to settle in. Mercutio will find him heading through the halls with a duffel bag full of sustenance for camp -- most of it for the resident einherjar, but there's a few packets of meat to break down for Drosera, too.

"Oh, hey," Magnus will say, upon seeing him. "Been here long?"

Mercutio has had a few days to decompress, yes, and to consider some things. He's in the midst of looking around the halls a little more when he runs into Magnus, and gives him a brief bow.

"Nay, not long," he says, and tilts his head at Magnus a little. "A few days. Good morning."

[summerdude]

"Morning," Magnus says, genially. "I'm Magnus. 'Sup? Settling in okay?"

"I am Mercutio." He shrugs, and offers Magnus a smile. "There is much to --settle into. But it's better than a grave, so I cannot complain."

[summerdude]

"Dude, I'm always saying that," says Magnus, who isn't, but who gets the feeling behind it.

He laughs and touches his side, half-reflexively. "Art thou worms' meat as well, at home?"

[summerdude]

"I mean, my old body is, I guess," says Magnus. A little annoyed, in truth; he'd wanted to be cremated. "But I've had a new one for like nine years." He flexes for effect.

[bymyheelies]

Mercutio gives him an absent once-over -- who is he to deny the power of a good flex, after all? "Mine hath not changed," he says, half-disappointed. At least he isn't bleeding anymore, there's a plus.

[summerdude]

"Yeah, mine was specifically an afterlife thing," Magnus says. "The other technically-dead guys here had different experiences."

[bymyheelies]

"Ah, there are more? How many?" He has been told it's not an afterlife, but all the same; he is curious.

[summerdude]

"Well, I guess Alex is like me. We come from the same afterlife. But the other guys... um, Enjolras and Grantaire definitely died. Me and Gideon couldn't figure out if she was dead or not. There might be more, I'm not sure."

[bymyheelies]

He nods. "Four, then. Or five." He'll consider that later, if he even thinks about it again at all. "Dost like this place?"

[summerdude]

"Oh, sure, it's pretty great. Good food, good friends... my girlfriend just got here the other day. Can't complain."

[bymyheelies]

He nods. "Thy lady, that's good. 'Tis a kind sort of faerie-land, then." Well. Maybe he'll get lucky and Benvolio or Romeo will show up.

[summerdude]

"Sometimes he's my boyfriend," Magnus says, because it's important to clear that right up up front. "If you see someone with green hair... that's Alex. Let her tell you which she is."

He tilts his head, frowning curiously. "Ay, I shall -- but. Both?"

[summerdude]

"Yeah, Alex is genderfluid."

[bymyheelies]

Magnus should really be used to the entirely blank looks he gets from many people here when he explains that by now. That is exactly what Mercutio is giving him, in fact, along with a ‘get on with it’ sort of hand motion. “Pray, explain? I do not understand.”

[summerdude]

Magnus doesn't notice the blank look because he doesn't actually get them all that often. "What part?"

"Gender..fluid?" He can sort of guess at it through context, but he would appreciate a more concrete explanation.

[summerdude]

"Yeah, sometimes he's a boy and sometimes she's a girl." Hadn't Magnus already explained this? "I guess some people are occasionally nonbinary, too -- that means neither -- but Alex is just male and female."

[bymyheelies]

"And --she can be either, and no one says anything?" He looks intrigued. He may grow to like this place after all.

[summerdude]

"Alex is both and no one says anything."

[bymyheelies]

"Hmm." It's not judgemental at all, only considering, and he gives Magnus a nod. "I thank thee."

[summerdude]

"What for?"
