Introducing Benvolio

Waking up in a strange bedroom, in a strange house, was bad enough, but then when Benvolio finally made his way to the front door he was greeted by snow outside. Summer might be coming to an end, but it definitely is not snow weather yet, nor is Benvolio dressed for such, in his black silk doublet, black and blue trimmed trunk hose, and black stockings. He does have shoes on, thankfully, though he can't imagine how he would have fallen asleep wearing shoes. It's not like he's had much opportunity to celebrate to the point of blacking out lately, after all.

Regardless, he takes one look at the snow outside and decides to shut the door and instead turn his attention to the table covered in different pamphlets and papers. He has many questions.

Benvolio looks around, taking in the piles of things. It looks comfortable, and well-loved, in the best sort of way. He can tell that Kade enjoys being in here. "Thou'rt the most well-stocked tailor I have ever seen," he says, clearly a compliment.

Kade laughs. "It helps that materials are free and plentiful."

"Ay, I can see how that would be a benefit."

[kadewest]

"Good man." Kade gestures Benvolio over to the clothes, which consist of a combination of discards that residents pulled from closets and didn't want, and items he's made in his time here between commissions. "Let's figure out which coat works for you."

"These fashions are all new to me," he says in wonder as he looks over the assortment.

"Yeah... they cover a range of centuries. And Worlds."

[keep_the_peace]

"This place is truly a marvel."

[kadewest]

"I know I'm sure pleased to be here," Kade says. He gives Benvolio an assessing sort of look, and then pulls off a bottle-green wool peacoat, a flannel-lined black leather duster, and 80s-windbreaker-style bubblegum pink and turquoise parka. "Try these on for size, as a start."

He tries the wool coat first, because he knows and trusts wool to be warm, and he doesn't know what is going on with the pink thing, and the leather duster is honestly kind of intimidating. The shoulder seam isn't sitting at quite the right place, and the sleeves are a bit too short, but it seems to fit nicely around his torso at least. "'Tis nice," he says once it's on.

Kade walks around him, looking. "It fits around your chest, but it's tight in your shoulders and short in the sleeves," he observes. "The shoulder-seams I can let out. The sleeves might be harder. I have other options, though. Let's see the next one?"

Benvolio picks the pink and teal windbreaker next. The cut of the garment is much more forgiving than the wool coat was, as this time the sleeves are possibly a bit too long, but there's something... stretchy in the cuffs (elastic, he just doesn't know what that is) that holds them in place around his wrists. It almost reminds him of the bracelets, but he doubts there's little animal shapes inside the sleeve, and anyway it feels a lot thicker than the bracelets. Maybe everything in the future is stretchy. "What manner of fabric is this? Some strange silk?" It's very unlike any silk he is familiar with, but closer to that than any wool, linen, or cotton he has ever encountered. Maybe a silk taffeta?

"Pure plastic, brother," says Kade. "That's a material from your future that's made entirely by chemicals."

"Alchemy may produce fabric?" Wild.

[kadewest]

"With the right tools? Absolutely."

[keep_the_peace]

"I am learning much today!"

[kadewest]

Kade laughs, charmed in the way a teacher often is by an enthusiastic student. "Welcome to this World."

[keep_the_peace]

"How doth this one look?" Benvolio asks about the jacket, because he doesn't know how it's supposed to fit or anything like that. He's never seen one.

[kadewest]

"A little big. They're supposed to run larger so you can wear 'em over sweaters, but it would create too much of an air layer in this cold." Kade tilts his head. "I could take it in if you like it, though. It would be an easy adjustment."

[keep_the_peace]

"'Tis definitely my favorite of the three," he says. "I would be thankful for the alterations, an it pleases thee."

[kadewest]

"Oh, it pleases me." Kade goes to get his tape measure and notebook. "I do have a few more options, if you'd like to see them. I also make coats. My fees are very reasonable."

[keep_the_peace]

"Oh, what are thine fees?" Should he have probably asked this sooner? Maybe. Has he literally ever had to worry about how much something costs before in his life? Nope.

"A story. About you and where you came from."

[keep_the_peace]

"A story?"

[kadewest]

"Yes. Something true."

[keep_the_peace]

"Now, or some time later?"
